The ceramic wall-panel titled “Olive” belongs to a series of the Valsamakis workshop, designed exclusively for the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP).
Panos Valsamakis (1900–1986) was one of the most significant figures in 20th-century Greek ceramic art and among the pioneers contributing to its revival and modernization. Having studied painting and pottery, he developed a personal, concise and clear style which quickly became recognisable.
His work combines Greek tradition with Modernist influences, emphasising geometry, symmetry and the natural tones of materials. He created unique functional and decorative objects that stand out through the quality of their form, the austerity of their design and the elegance of their style.
Today, his legacy continues at the Valsamakis workshop, with reproductions and contemporary creations inspired by his style and philosophy, keeping alive the spirit of Greek modernism in ceramic art.
