The skinos tree (Pistacia lentiscus var. Chia) is an evergreen shrub that thrives exclusively in southern Chios. Gum mastic, the aromatic resin produced by this tree, has acknowledged medicinal properties and is an integral part of the cultural heritage of Chios.
