This tale is related to the theme of the Chios Mastic Museum, which belongs to the Museum Network of the Piraeus Cultural Foundation. Little Markella takes us on a journey through the picturesque alleyways of a village on the island of Chios. Along the way, she discovers the cultivation of mastic trees, the "embroidering" of the trees and the traditional gatherings where mastic is cleaned to the accompaniment of songs and storytelling, forging bonds of friendship and community. Markella's meeting with Margarita, the daughter of the Genoese Governor, brings to the fore the power of friendship that transcends borders and generations. The two heroines grow up together, share experiences and build a strong bond. When the moment of parting arrives, they discover that true friendships remain alive forever. The bourboulaki, a small clay vessel traditionally used for serving mastic, becomes a symbol of memory, friendship and culture.
